Top 10 Fictional Villains We Shouldn’t Love (But Do)

3

If evil, why hot? A scientific investigation into our questionable taste.

Let’s be honest. In real life, we want a man who pays his taxes, goes to therapy, and texts back within 20 minutes. But in fiction? Boring.

Give us the morally grey, the emotionally unstable, the man who would burn the world down just to keep us warm. Is it toxic? Yes. Do we care? Absolutely not.

Psychologists say it’s because we want to “tame the beast.” I say it’s because villains simply have better wardrobes (and usually, a British accent).

Here is the official Hall of Fame of Fictional Villains we definitely shouldn’t love, but would absolutely defend in court.

1. Loki (The MCU)

  • The Crimes: Attempted genocide, multiple betrayals, faking his own death (repeatedly).
  • Why We Simp: He has daddy issues, he’s sarcastic, and he looks devastating in black leather and horns. He’s the original “I can fix him” project of the MCU.
  • The Delusion Level: 10/10. We truly believe a hug would solve everything.

2. The Darkling (Shadow and Bone)

  • The Crimes: Creating a literal fold of darkness filled with monsters, manipulating the protagonist, general tyranny.
  • Why We Simp: He said, “Fine. Make me your villain.” And we all collectively gasped. He doesn’t want to save the world; he wants to rule it with you. That’s a power couple dynamic we can respect.
  • The Red Flag: He is hundreds of years old and toxic.
  • The Green Flag: Ben Barnes.

3. Kylo Ren (Star Wars)

  • The Crimes: Patricide, temper tantrums, destroying planets.
  • Why We Simp: He’s an emotional rollercoaster in high-waisted pants. The sheer intensity? The way he looks at Rey like he wants to fight her and marry her at the same time? We love a man who needs emotional regulation support.
  • Our Defense: “He was manipulated by Snoke!”

4. Draco Malfoy (Harry Potter)

  • The Crimes: Being a bully, a Death Eater, and essentially a prejudiced brat.
  • Why We Simp: The suit. The platinum blonde hair. The misunderstood sadness in The Half-Blood Prince. He walked so every “Enemies to Lovers” fanfiction could run.
  • The Reality: We don’t love Draco; we love Tom Felton.

5. Daemon Targaryen (House of the Dragon)

  • The Crimes: War crimes, murder, grooming… the list is long.
  • Why We Simp: He is chaos incarnate. He creates problems on purpose just to see what happens. But he is fiercely loyal to his family (in his own twisted way). Also, he rides a dragon.
  • The Vibe: Moral flexibility is a requirement here.

6. Klaus Mikaelson (The Vampire Diaries / The Originals)

  • The Crimes: Mass murder, daggering his siblings, general hybrid terror.
  • Why We Simp: He’s a painter! He has an accent! And he says things like “I intend to be your last love.” When a villain goes soft only for you, it’s game over for our feminist principles.

7. Jareth the Goblin King (Labyrinth)

  • The Crimes: Kidnapping a baby, stalking a teenager, drug-laced peaches.
  • Why We Simp: David Bowie in tight pants. That’s it. That’s the tweet. He literally sings, “Just fear me, love me, do as I say, and I will be your slave.” Confusing? Yes. Iconic? Forever.

8. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen version)

  • The Crimes: He eats people. Literally.
  • Why We Simp: He cooks really well? He wears impeccable three-piece suits? He is the ultimate sophisticated monster. This one is hard to explain to regular people, but if you know, you know.

9. Billy Russo / Jigsaw (The Punisher)

  • The Crimes: Betraying his best friend, murder, being a mercenary.
  • Why We Simp: Once again, Ben Barnes. (Yes, he appears twice on this list. No, I will not apologize). Even with the scars, the man is beautiful.

10. Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

  • The Crimes: Killing slayers, general vampire mayhem.
  • Why We Simp: The Billy Idol look. The poetry. The fact that he fought to get a soul just to be worthy. He is the blueprint for the “Bad Boy Redemption Arc.”

The Verdict?

If loving these walking red flags is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
